Beautiful. White. Murdered. is first and foremost a true crime satire, but it also has elements of workplace comedy as we follow the crew behind the scenes. In most docu-style series we only see the subjects, but our show has layers, from the criminal case itself, to the behind the scenes journeys of the crew, to the dynamics of the Lonely Women’s Network. Animation is the thruline that will take us through all of these layers consistently.

Animation also allows us to explore the true crime world with extreme creative freedom - we get to heighten our commentary and build a true crime mystery that could keep the best web-sleuths entertained - without reality-based constraints.

We used our backgrounds in film and TV production to build the “behind the scenes” aspect of our show. We both have a loooooooong list of set anecdotes from accidentally shitting ourselves in front of a celebrity (names and details to be disclosed on another zoom) to being trapped in a snake tamer’s van in midtown.

As we all know, there is humor, horror and romance on set and one of our favorite parts of watching a true crime doc is imagining what it must have been like during the production. Like - how many hours of footage of Robert Durst in the bathroom did the editor of The Jinx have to listen to before discovering that breakthrough guilt admission?
